Who is eligible for an Arlington Public Library card?

Cards are FREE to anyone with valid, government‐issued photo ID and proof of residency in Arlington, Pantego, Kennedale or Mansfield. (Current driver’s license, utility bill, lease, etc. all qualify.)

  • Library card applicants under age 18 must have application signed by parent or legal guardian to activate account.
  • Arlington Public Library participates in a reciprocal borrowing agreement with the Mansfield Public Library and the Kennedale Public Library. Users may freely access and return items from all three collections.
  • AISD and UTA students, faculty, and staff may obtain a free library card with proof of attendance or employment.

Where to apply

If you live in Arlington and want to check out physical items AND use our online resources, you may apply in person or online. If you apply online, our system will automatically verify your address, then email you a digital card number. You can add this card number to our app, MyLibro, to get a barcode and check out books in person. Mansfield and Kennedale residents should apply in person with their local system. If you have had an Arlington Public Library card before, renew here.

All students, teachers and faculties at schools and licensed daycares in Arlington are eligible for a free library card, regardless of residence. Primary, secondary, and post-secondary public, charter and private schools are all eligible. Bring proof of attendance or employment to any Arlington Public Library location to get your card.

Additionally, Arlington Independent School District students have access to public library resources such as computers, databases and eBooks using their AISD student ID (ie. lunch number) or Arlington library card. Students may also check out up to 2 physical items at a time. The default password for computers and online resources is 1234.

Partnership Cards

The Arlington Public Library has partnership agreements with Kennedale,  Mansfield, and Pantego. Only those who are residents of those cities and have library cards can use their existing library card at any of our locations.  Mansfield and Kennedale residents must go to their city library to obtain a new library card or renew their library card.

Students, faculty, and staff at any licensed daycare, primary, secondary, or post-secondary public, charter, or private school located in the Arlington city limits can also receive a free library card. Bring proof of attendance or employment to any location to set up your account.

Corporate Accounts

Corporate cards are issued to Arlington businesses in the name of the executive of the firm, who is also the person responsible for any materials borrowed on this card. A regular library card may also be an option for broader borrowing privileges. The executive officer (owner, manager, director, or principal) bearing responsibility for the card must sign the library card application in person at any Arlington Public Library location.

Renew a Library Card

Library cards must be renewed every year, either in person or through our online form. You may do this by presenting a government-issued ID that has a photo and recent proof of your current address.

Click here to renew your card online.

Replace a Lost Library Card

For security reasons, the library will need to cancel your old card and issue a new one. Please visit any library branch and present a government issued ID that has a photo and recent proof of your current address. Residents of Mansfield and Kennedale who need a replacement library card must visit your city library where you reside.

Change Account Address

You may change your address at any branch or online by presenting a government-issued ID that has a photo, recent proof of your current address, and paying any balance owed in full. Change your address by clicking this form.

Change Library Access Level

Parents can easily determine what materials their children can check out. Please complete the Access Level Form to determine what material your child has access to.

Existing access levels have been reclassified as follows:

Full Access: This access level allows patrons to check out all materials and use all services. All patrons ages 18 and older are automatically given full access. Parents can grant this access level to their children if desired.

Teen Restricted Access: With this level of access, patrons can check out Juvenile (ages 0-12) and Young Adult (ages 13-17) materials and access public computers and study rooms. No patron is ever automatically assigned to this access level. Parents or guardians can opt their children into this access level.

Child Restricted Access: This level of access allows patrons to check out Juvenile materials (ages 0-12) and access Juvenile public computers. All patrons under 18 years old are automatically assigned to Child Restricted Access. Parents or guardians can elect to increase their children’s access beyond this level if desired, but access level changes will never occur automatically based on age.

Every patron under 18 years of age will automatically be assigned to Child Restricted Access. Parents and guardians can change that permission level to Teen or Full Access by visiting their local branch or completing the form here.
